Freight Packaging Guides

Poor packaging can leave freight exposed to damage, shifting, and difficult handling. Freight packaging protects goods by matching the pallet, crate, cushioning, and load restraint to the product and the way it will travel.
Quick Summary

Prepare freight for the handling it will face

Freight that moves through several terminals may need different protection than a dedicated truckload. Start with the item’s fragility, weight, shape, and exposure to moisture, then confirm how it will be lifted and secured. Packaging should support the cargo throughout pickup, transit, and unloading.
Record the dimensions and weight of the shipment after packaging, including its pallet or crate.
Choose a suitable base and secure the goods so they do not shift or overhang it.
Identify fragile surfaces, stacking restrictions, and any special lifting instructions before booking.
